Description

Premiered in March 2024 by hornist Caroline Steiger and pianist Hyejin Cho at the MidSouth Horn Workshop at Oklahoma State University, this seven-minute work for horn in F and piano is a transcription of three movements from the composer's earlier song cycle, A Thousand Tongues. Originally set to poetry by Stephen Crane, the selected songs were arranged as abstract instrumental pieces and retitled after traditional classical forms. The opening "Prelude" features free-form horn melodies played over patterned intervals in the piano, followed by a brief, agitated "Scherzetto" that transitions directly into the concluding "Berceuse."
