What are "Works for Hire" and how do rentals work?
“Works for hire” (also called hire materials) are performance materials that are not sold. They are supplied for a limited time and approved uses, usually tied to a specific run of performances. Renting is common for large-ensemble works, such as orchestra, opera, and ballet.

I'm interested in renting a particular work, what's next?
Only specific titles are available for rental; not every product on our website is available for hire. For rental titles:

  1. Submit a Rental Quote Request: Use the quote request form for the title you'd like to rent (See available Rentals / Works for Hire). The form guides you through the details we need, including performance dates, performing ensemble, venue, and other specifics.
  2. Receive an Official Quote: After you submit, we will review availability and send you a quote outlining terms, fees, and timelines.
  3. Accept the Quote: Once you approve the quote, we schedule shipment of performance materials for the agreed rental period.

Licensing

Licensing covers permissions that go beyond those assumed with the purchase of a sales item or a standard live performance rental. Common categories include:

  • Grand rights for staged works such as opera, ballet, and musical theater
  • Broadcast, streaming, and synchronization for radio, TV, web, film, advertisements, and on-demand online video.
  • Mechanical licenses for audio recording and release.
  • Permission to arrange for orchestrations, reductions, medleys, or new instrumentations.
  • Print permissions to reproduce a work in programs, books, academic materials, collections, etc.

Different license types may be handled by different agents in your territory. Please email us at licensing@ficksmusic.com for more information.
