Lowell Liebermann's Sonata is surely one of the most widely played pieces for flute by a living composer. It is cast in two movements: a sensuously lyrical Lento con rubato, and a nimble, mischievous Presto energico. First performed by Paula Robison and Jean-Yves Thibaudet, the Sonata is a beloved, well-established work in the standard repertoire.
