It is therefore not surprising that the concerto (due to the very high range of the concertante horn section) initially established itself as a trumpet concerto. Recent attempts with modern, high horns, however, allow a more approximate reproduction of the original. The present edition by the well-known trumpet player Ludwig Güttler takes both options into account. This concerto can be performed on both the E-flat as well as the B-flat trumpet. We recommend, however, performing it on the corno da caccia in high B-flat.
