    Description

The Horn Concerto in D Major, Hob. VIId:4 is attributed to Joseph Haydn in two copies of the score and in two source catalogues dating from the 18th century. Nevertheless, Haydn's authorship is still not considered as certain today for stylistic reasons, too – contrary to the Horn Concerto in D Major, Hob. VIId:3.

When Eusebius Mandyczewski first made the present work accessible to the public in his arrangement for horn and piano of 1898, he supplemented it with two cadenzas and ten tutti measures (144 to 153) to lead up more effectively to the entrance of the closing cadenza.
