    Description

Originally planned as the slow movement of a Cello Sonata, Fauré composed his melancholy Elégie in 1880. The Sicillienne started life as an orchestral work in 1893 and was arranged by Fauré for cello and piano in 1898 before finding its place as part of his famous incidental music to Maurice Maeterlinck's play Pelléas et Mélisande. This Urtext edition by leading French music scholar Roy Howat contains a preface, commentary and exemplary presentation of the score. Includes piano accompaniment and separate cello part.
