Description

"Pavane and Galliard Sonata" (2025) was written for Carson Cooman as part of his multi-composer Pavane and Galliard Project that has asked contemporary composers to re-imagine these Renaissance dance forms. David Lasky had previously contributed five pavane and galliard pairs to the project, and the idea was then conceived of a concert work that would be simultaneously two more pavane and galliard pairs (#6 and #7) as well as a four movement sonata. in this sonata, the two pavanes form the processional-like opening movement and the third movement expressive adagio. The two galliards serve as the second movement scherzo and the fourth movement finale.
