Description

Alicia de Larrocha's compositional side has remained largely unknown until now. Given her intense career as an international performer, it was difficult to imagine that she could have dedicated herself to writing at any point in her life. Even so, Larrocha, a highly talented musician, focused her early years on other aspects of music outside her concert career. This explains why the catalog of works composed by Alicia de Larrocha during this short period includes almost fifty pieces.

From a very young age, when she was only seven, the pianist composed some small but quite remarkable pieces, despite her precocious age. It was from adolescence onward that her output became more prolific. The young student learned from the master Domènec Mas i Serracant, and from Marshall himself, a writing style that allowed her to recreate the language of her favorite composers: many of the pieces are reminiscent of Schumann's compositions, Bach's inventions, and Scarlatti's sonatas. These "youthful indiscretions," which include several works for piano—both solo and as part of other ensembles—stand as a testament to all this learning. Despite the youth at which they were written, they all reveal the profound understanding of the instrument that made her a world-renowned pianist.
