Description

Composed in Rome by a twenty-year-old Georges Bizet, the Te Deum was written in 1858 to fulfill his first-year requirement as a Prix de Rome laureate. Standing as the composer's most substantial sacred work, this eighteen-minute, four-movement piece sets the traditional Latin text for soprano and tenor soloists, SSTB choir, and a full orchestra (2.2.2.2-4.2.3.1-Timp-Hp-Str). Remarkably, the work remained unperformed until 1971. Recently featured in the acclaimed Bru Zane Portraits recording series, this grand, youthful composition is presented here in a fresh edition drawn directly from the original sources by musicologist Hugh Macdonald.
