Description

Dreams and longing – these themes found their place in the music of the Late Romantic period and can be traced in both German and Hebrew literature of the time. The Deutsch-Jüdisches Liederbuch (German-Jewish Songbook) of 1912 brought together songs by German-Jewish composers and lyricists.

As part of an arranging competition organised by the German Choir Association, composers from Germany and Israel were invited to create contemporary choral settings of these songs for various choral ensembles. Each piece lasts between 3 and 6 minutes and is based either on a German or Hebrew song, or a fusion of both.

Suitable for chamber choirs in both sacred and secular contexts, the works are of moderate difficulty and offer a rich musical and emotional experience.

The premiere took place at the 2025 Deutsches Chorfest in Nuremberg. These works form a musical bridge between cultures and contribute meaningfully to the German-Jewish culture of remembrance.

Contents:

  • Heimweh (Henning Wölk)
  • El-Hatsipor (Henning Wölk)
  • Träume der Nacht (Jutta Michel-Becher)
  • Abendgrüße (Ohad Stolarz)
  • Der 122. Psalm (Ohad Stolarz)
  • Wandrers Nachtlied (Yonatan Harari, Yonatan Yochay)
  • Ha-dagim (Yonatan Harari, Yonatan Yochay)
  • Evening Scene (Yannick Wittmann)
  • An meinen Engel (Jens Klimek)
