Description

Composer's Note:

Yggdrasill was composed in February, 2005 as a companion piece to Petroglyph Dances, in celebration of the Cross-Town Trio's invitation to perform at the International Viola Congress in Reykjavik, Iceland in June, 2005. The title refers to the universal tree from which all things spring, a potent symbol in Norse mythology. The movement is designed in the manner of a chorale prelude combining two melodies, an Icelandic Lutheran hymn, How Marvelous God's Greatness and an Icelandic fiddle tune, I Had a Father.
