    Description

Johann Pachelbel was a leading organist and composer of the Baroque period. Most of his compositions are sacred choral music and organ solos featuring elaborate counterpoint. He was a well-respected teacher, and one of his students was J.S. Bach's father.

Pachelbel composed his Canon and Gigue in D Major for 3 Violins and continuo, or bass-andchords accompaniment. The term "canon" signifies that all three violinists played the same part, starting at different times, just like a round. Pachelbel's Canon is also a chaconne, which means it is built over a repeating chord progression.
