Description

Glass Echoes imagines the sounds of the solo horn reflecting and refracting off of an imaginary glass prism, behaving much like light. Echoes are produced within the horn itself through a kaleidoscopic mesh of different hand positions that create multiple layers of sound. Further layers of depth come from unpredictable resonances picked up by the strings of the grand piano. A quality of lonely meditation pervades throughout the work, only briefly interupted by gestures of agitation and doubt – as if one were attempting to find a sense of inner peace while inside a glass conservatory.

Glass Echoes was originally written in 2012 and premiered by Michael Walker at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. The work was revised in 2024 and premiered by Saar Berger at the WINDHOEK Festival of HfM Trossingen on March 27, 2024.
