Description

Composed in May 1857 as a preliminary-round submission for the Prix de Rome, Georges Bizet's La Chanson du Rouet (The Song of the Spinning Wheel) is a charming four-minute choral miniature. Set to a French poem by Leconte de Lisle affectionately addressed to a spinning wheel, the work is scored for soprano solo, SSTB chorus, and a modest orchestra (2.2.2.2-2.0.0.0-Str).

Although Bizet's choral output has historically remained obscure, this youthful gem was recently revived for Volume 6 of the acclaimed Bru Zane Portraits recording series and is presented here in a fresh, authoritative edition drawn directly from the original sources by musicologist Hugh Macdonald.
