Description

For ebowed harpsichord.

The title Akasha refers to the Sanskrit word for space or ether, the most subtle of the elements and the medium through which sound travel. in yogic thought, akasha is both the container and the resonance of all things. This concept shapes the piece as a meditative experience: music is not presented as linear discourse but as single sounds suspended in space, and framed by ritual gestures on a resonating bowl. Seven harmonic fields for harpsichord unfold between these thresholds, sustained and interwoven with short plucked actions. Their restricted pitch material – C, E, F, and A – is associated with symbolic qualities of unity, force, foundation, and balance. in its slow unfolding, the music proposes an experience of inner spaciousness, hinting at a contemplative journey through shadow (tamas), energy (rajas), and light (sattva).
