Description

Chorea is an imaginary ballet in the form of a concertino for clarinet and string orchestra. Taking up the term "Entrée," characteristic of 18th-century opera-ballet, it unfolds in three contrasting movements, a cadenza linking the slow movement of the finale.

The first "entry" is a continuous movement of funk rhythms that develop on an incessant pulse.

The second "entrance" is a pas-de-deux where the chromatic lines intertwine in the mystery of the night.

A pantomime cadenza, very narrative and free of rhythm, operates the transition between this world of the night and the joy of the last entry. This is a rondo with two themes, one of pure exultant vitality and the other deploying an almost vocal line. It is in this climate of solar divertissement that my miniature concert ballet ends.
