Description

Commissioned by Washington National Cathedral (Washington, DC) for Thomas Sheehan, organ and The U.S. Army Brass Quintet. While the intent was to write a musical work suitable for any time of year, the date of the premiere (the United States of America's Independence Day) impacted the initial thinking. Thus the overall concept and title came from a contemplation of the notion of "revolution"—firstly in the more abstract sense of social, political, and spiritual revolutions. Secondly, this sense of revolution is extended to the literal, with musical ideas in revolving textures. "Radiant" is explored both in the sense of a shining brightness, but also as energy pulsing outward from the inside.
