Description

Work for male voice choir or mixed choir (in this edition), signed in 1897, on text by Apel·les Mestres y Oñós (1852-1936), draftsman, poet, playwright, composer and horticulturist, a man highly appreciated in those years at the end of the 19th century, whose texts often served as inspiration for musicians.

The work, of which two manuscripts survive, 68 and 72 pages respectively, follows a program linked to the passage of the year, as other composers such as Vivaldi, Haydn, and Tchaikovsky had done. Written for male choir, like Clar de lluna, it was probably conceived with the same intention: to provide repertoire for the Claverian choir of its local population. It frequently includes vocal effects typical of this choral context. It is organized in a particular way for each of the parts corresponding to the months, proposing a variable distribution of voices and appropriate tonalities for each expressive moment, although it maintains a predominantly homophonic character, alternating use of voices to enhance expressiveness, and relative simplicity of interpretation.
