Description

No one knows where Honeysuckle Square is, and there's no point in using maps or guidebooks. Rather, it's a place of the composer's imagination, where one might well encounter "crazy reveries."

Composed in 2019 for Vincenzo Paratore, the piece is a short and amusing divertissement that combines certain compositional styles with elements of humor: after a tentative "heroic" opening, resembling a march full of rhythmic slip-ups and complexities, a second section follows in which the trombone melody, now somewhat dreamy and melancholic, is surrounded by piano arpeggios. The playing initially develops into a kind of "challenge" between the two instruments, with glissandi of overtones that emerge in exuberance, followed by a trombone cadenza with majestic and dramatic notes. The piece concludes with a brilliant and playful coda.
