Description

For centuries, much of the musical repertoire cultivated in Santiago, Chile, during the colonial era has remained unpublished and scattered in inaccessible archives. This volume offers, for the first time, a comprehensive and representative critical edition of vocal and instrumental works preserved in the city, revealing the rich sound that flourished in churches, theaters, public spaces, and private homes.

The transcriptions include pieces for voice, orchestra, baroque guitar, violin, and keyboard, allowing for an understanding of the plurality of musical practices prevalent in the kingdom's capital and disseminating a repertoire whose value had already been recognized by specialists such as Robert Stevenson. Furthermore, the preliminary study includes valuable information on the sources, their contexts, and the editing criteria employed.

Thus, this edition will be useful both for performers and ensembles of early music and for those who research Hispanic American musical life during the colonial period.
