Cathedral Windows, Op. 106 and Triptych, Op. 141, are works from the composer's late creative phase. The titles themselves awaken associations with Karg-Elerts extremely colorful musical language, which oscillates between diatonic "white-note" music and proliferating chromaticism in "Cathedral Windows." The (sound) windows of Debussys famous "Cathédrale engloutie" must have been similar to those in Karg-Elert's church.
