My mother passed away on February 15, 2024, from a short but intense battle with cancer. It is my honor to ce lebrate her through this composition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMy mom was an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, moving to Puerto Rico for educational reasons. Her shinning light shines bright in all of us, and we are so thankful for her guidance and unconditional love. Our memories are too many to share, but this work aims to celebrate her beautiful life.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLa Última Llamada (The Last Call), uses a very specific musical idea throughout the work. As young kids, my mom would call my brothers and me with a very specific whistled interval. Although the inteval varied, we always knew she was calling us back to the house in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMuch of the work has very specif ideas related to my mother and her life. in the beginning and end of the work, you will hear the ocean. As Latin Caribbeans, the ocean plays in a Major part of our lives. Starting on measure 67, like a trio in a march, I introduce a nostalgic march and chorale, representing a beautiful life, raising three boys during very difficult times.
