Crossing chromatic scales at various speeds catalogue the instrument's current faults, where certain notes have gradually ceased to sound while others sound but with unpredictable volume. These failures are depicted by sudden dynamic surges and prepared stopped notes. After a climactic surge comes the instrument's imagined swan song, its pathetic quality distilled by the remaining \"missing\" notes and further reinforced by a broken rhythmic lilt.
