On 19 July she sketched a trio for flute, cello and piano, left it untitled and made a second version, this time for cello and organ and called it \u003cem\u003ePastorale\u003c\/em\u003e. Next day she sketched a companion piece, Caprice, but left it unfinished. The two would probably have been designated, Op. 90, nos. 1 \u0026amp; 2.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBeach stayed at the MacDowell Colony many times, the final being in the Summer of 1941. Over the period 16-18 June she wrote this \u003cem\u003ePastorale for Wind Quintet\u003c\/em\u003e, based on the sketches she had made there 20 years before, but completely reworked. It is for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, and is simple in structure, being an A-B-A form in which the B section is marked by a change of key (G to E-flat) and dynamics, rather than the introduction of new material.
