It was as if the composer had so many Tchaikovsky-inspired themes in his head that they had to be used somehow. As it was, Bantock constructed a five-movement suite in which the spirit of the Russian master hovers over everything. Bantock's son Angus noted that his father relied on a well-used copy of Rimsky-Korsakov's study of orchestration, which is evident in the skill with which the Englishman pays homage to the extrovert side of the Russian master.
