I have nothing but the highest regard for Amy McCabe, the dedicatee of the solo trumpet part, and Colonel Jason, K. Fettig, who asked me to compose the piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe piece was composed for the band's October, 2018 tour of the Midwest (including a stop in my home city of Chicago), and is meant to \"chase\" Amy off the stage after having performed another work of mine: The Storyteller. Because the latter piece ends quietly, I imagined an encore to quickly show Amy's virtuosic skills before she was to hasten back to the principal trumpet chair; hence the name \"Scram!\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe symphonic version, created for the Baltimore Symphony, transfers many of the virtuosic solo trumpet lines into various sections of the orchestra, showing off their skills at executing fast-moving phrases.
