From 1928 to 1933, he studied composition and conducting with Francisco Braga and Walter Burle Marx at the \u003cem\u003eInstituto Nacional de Música\u003c\/em\u003e. José Siqueira worked as a conductor in various countries, including the United States, France and Belgium. He founded several orchestras in Brazil, including the \u003cem\u003eBrazilian Symphony Orchestra\u003c\/em\u003e in 1940, the \u003cem\u003eNational Symphony Orchestra\u003c\/em\u003e in 1961 and the \u003cem\u003eBrazilian Chamber Orchestra\u003c\/em\u003e in 1967. in 1953, he conducted the \u003cem\u003eOrchestre Radio-Symphonique\u003c\/em\u003e in Paris and studied musicology at the \u003cem\u003eSorbonne\u003c\/em\u003e. He then became a professor at the \u003cem\u003eUniversidade do Brasil\u003c\/em\u003e and published textbooks in addition to his compositions. in 1969, the military dictatorship banned him from working, and he was not allowed to teach or conduct.
