Description
This Critical Edition by Clinton Nieweg of Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) is a result of a collaboration among several Major orchestras. This corrected edition succeeds in addressing the numerous inconsistencies and mistakes from previous editions that resulted from Stravinsky's revisions, copyists' carelessness, and publishers' errors, with months of work producing over 21,000 changes through the consultation of eight different scores.
While the ballet's May 29th, 1913 premiere in Paris by Ballets Russes at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées famously resulted in a riot, the work has long had a prominent place in orchestra repertoire, and ballet companies staging of the ballet has seen a resurgence over the years.
