The first of Castelnuovo-Tedesco's quartets for strings reflects, with its crisply classical form, the wellbeing the composer was enjoying when he wrote it (1929): it is one of his most cheerful works of the Italian period, and pulses with the vitality that came from living among his favorite places in the Tuscan countryside.
