Using personal data gathered from my visual journals over the past year, I embarked on an inquiry process to find connections between my current experience as a 39-year-old living in Brooklyn with intimate memories and specific sounds I remember from when I was a young girl living in Puerto Rico. Mapping some of these underlying patterns of my current life to musical elements and combining these with micro-samples from some of my earlier music as well as from early-90s Latin pop hits that shaped my childhood, this piece reflects on my early encounters with songs and on my subsequent musical development outside of the place I call home. Moreover, this piece is informed by my own personal struggles of finding my compositional voice while also feeling the external pressure to perform my Latinidad in mostly white spaces and the conflicting urge to assimilate in the constructed search of belonging to a new idealized space.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003c\/div\u003e \u003c\/div\u003e","brand":"Decca Publishing","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45103001993295,"sku":"DP65","price":30.95,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0900\/1828\/files\/3f366f608610081b964acdaf74857184.png?v=1776367462","url":"https:\/\/www.ficksmusic.com\/fr\/products\/negron-say-something-in-spanish-decca","provider":"Ficks Music","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
