Description

Piano Suite No. 1 "Three Mountains Ballades of Southern Yunnan" was composed in 1992 and received the "Golden Bell Award" of Chinese Music in 2004. The work is based on the style of Yi folk music in southern Yunnan, which is divided into three movements: (1) "Children of the Mountains": a three-part piece with unique tuning and tonal characteristics, expressing the joyful scene of innocent children playing in the mountains freely. (2) "Moon over the Mountains ": a two-part variation with a refreshing and beautiful melody, constantly changing alternating tunings and varied harmonies, creating the music full of poetic and hazy colors. (3) " Fires over the Mountains": a complex three-part piece with the characteristics of sonata-like tonal regression, shifting tonal colors, and changing rhythms, showing the enthusiastic scene of the people singing and dancing around the campfire in the mountain.
