Beginning with a graceful and elegant Aria, the following Elegy expresses somber undertones, inspired by a phrase from The Gospel at Colonus: \"… in the late wind of death he could not stand.\" This second movement heavily features a solo viola and solo quintet. Finally, the energetic Dance serves as a tribute to the painting and poetry of the composer's friend, Richard Beale.
