Description

"El ruido de mis ojos" (The noise from my eyes) is a piece inspired by feelings of anxiety and emotional stress. I often write music hoping to find an escape from these unpleasant feelings but this piece conversely sits in that discomfort. It aims to confront these emotions in an attempt to better understand the process I go through as I experience anxiety. The piece seeks to evoke the emotional weight of bottling things up and pretending things are fine when they're clearly not. It looks for solace and release without necessarily always being successful at finding it. The piece was commissioned by the Elise Hall Competition for Emerging Saxophonists and Sarah Hetrick. The Elise Hall Competition for Emerging Saxophonists aims to encourage and support the professional and artistic development of young female-identifying, trans, non-binary, and equity seeking saxophonists.
