Price's love of the waltz — works such as \u003cem\u003eRainbow Waltz\u003c\/em\u003e , \u003cem\u003eRowing\u003c\/em\u003e , \u003cem\u003eSummertime Waltz\u003c\/em\u003e , and \u003cem\u003eWaltzing on a Sunbeam\u003c\/em\u003e , among others. Although the autograph is undated, the paper and script suggest that it was written in the early 1930s — though Price returned to it at least twice significantly later, entering revisions in fuchsia and orange pencil. Its music, like that of her other waltzes, sparkles with charm and good humor, seamlessly integrating some features derived from Price's African American heritage (most notably gapped scales and circular melodies) with others frequently encountered in concert waltzes. At 128 measures it is also the most expansive, closely followed by \u003cem\u003eIn Sentimental Mood\u003c\/em\u003e (which is not officially designated a waltz). It is laid out in an expansive ternary form, with the first \u003cem\u003eA\u003c\/em\u003e section (mm. 1-32 \u003cem\u003ebis\u003c\/em\u003e) itself being a ternary form in C Major, a repeated \u003cem\u003eB\u003c\/em\u003e in A-flat Major (mm. 73-104) containing a variety of figurations and textures, and a truncated reprise of the \u003cem\u003eA\u003c\/em\u003e section (mm. 1-30 \u003cem\u003ebis\u003c\/em\u003e), plus transitions between the \u003cem\u003eA\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eB\u003c\/em\u003e sections and a marvelously imaginative coda that initially combines rich chromatic chords with a \u003cem\u003epoco ritardando\u003c\/em\u003e before releasing the pent-up momentum into the \u003cem\u003eaccelerando\u003c\/em\u003e of the sparkling final bars.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e— John Michael Cooper\u003c\/p\u003e \u003c\/div\u003e \u003c\/div\u003e","brand":"G.
