Description

The String Quartet No. 7 op 129, lasting 19 minutes and in three movements, was composed in the spring 2024. The first movement, lasting 7 minutes, has three parts. It is energic in character, developing around thematic cells from bars 1 to 12. The second part, from bars 13 to 63, develops the thematic elements and the fourth chords played in bars 10 and 11. The re - exposure occurs at bar 64, then develops bars 6 and 7 again. The coda at bar 84 concludes the movement in a sustained mood. The second movement with a duration of 6 minutes features a theme followed by six variations. The theme is highly expressive, given by the cello and supported by gentle chords from the other three instruments. The six variations retain this dreamlike quality, with, for example, a canon - like development between the first violin and the cello in the 4 th variation at bar 40. The movement ends in a very gentle atmosphere. The finale, lasting 5 minutes 30, in in ABA' from. After a melodic introduction ( bars 1 to 8 ), a cheerful theme in introduced in bar 9. It is given to the two violins, supported by a light accompaniment from the other two instruments. A development is proposed up to bar 45. A central section B ( bars 46 to 66 ) develops the introduction in a highly melodic mood, highlighting the dialogue between the instruments. The return of A, at bar 67, first sets out the theme and then, from bar 73 onwards, proposes a new development played until bar 103. The coda, from bar 104 onwards, builds on the introduction and theme A. It concludes the quartet with great light and energy.
