Description

The Piano Sonata in B Minor, Op. 58 constitutes Chopin's third and most significant contribution to the genre. An entirely new evaluation of the sources by the editor resulted in a revised reading of the work. This edition is based on the French first edition, a version to which Chopin added corrections until and even beyond the time of printing. Some of the most important variants can be found in the first movement (such as in m. 96), but also in the Largo and the Finale.

A Foreword (Ger/Eng) addressing the complex source situation and notes on performance practice by Paul Badura-Skoda, a pioneer of the historically-informed style of playing, provide extensive information for the study of this newly edited work, presented here in an elegant engraving with practical page turns. The Critical Commentary (Eng) extensively documents readings and all editorial decisions. Chopin's original fingering is supplemented by fingering by the editor.
